Cloud 9 vs. G2 Esports highlights week three of North American League Play

Last week, the North American Championship Series really started to heat up, as Rogue reverse-swept FlyQuest and Ghost Gaming upset NRG Esports in a wild weekend of action.

This week promises to be just as exciting, with key mathcups across the board. Here’s a look at what we can expect from each matchup.

Renegades (0-2) vs. Allegiance (0-3)

How they did last week: Allegiance fell to Cloud 9, while Renegades did not play.

What Elo predicts: Allegiance is North America’s weakest team, only carrying a 1484.5 rating. Renegades carries a 1617.3 rating, and Elo gives them a 81.1 percent chance of winning the series.

Player to watch: Dappur is the only player in league play without a goal, and he’ll be looking to change that this weekend. Look for him to be an offensive force against Allegiance.

Cloud 9 (3-0) vs. Ghost Gaming (1-0)

How they did last week: Last week, Cloud 9 beat Allegiance 3-1, and swept FlyQuest, while Ghost Gaming upset NRG Esports.

What Elo predicts: Ghost’s victory over NRG boosted them to a 1618.7 rating, but Cloud 9 carries a 1767.7 rating. Elo gives Cloud 9 a 83.8 percent chance of winning the series.

Player to watch: Gimmick was incredible last week, especially in Cloud 9’s sweep of FlyQuest, where he finished with six goals and three assists in just three games. If Ghost is going to beat Cloud 9, they’ll have to slow Gimmick down.

FlyQuest (0-2) vs. G2 Esports (1-0)

How they did last week: FlyQuest had a rough weekend, as they were reverse-swept by Rogue and then swept by Cloud 9. G2 Esports did not play last week.

What Elo predicts: G2 Esports carries a 1707.5 rating into this matchup, while FlyQuest has a 1591.1 rating. Elo gives G2 a 78.3 percent chance of winning the series.

Player to watch: In their first series against Renegades, G2 relied heavily on JKnaps, who finished with four goals, five assists, and three MVP awards. Look for him to be a key factor in this series, as G2 looks to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Ghost Gaming (1-0) vs. Allegiance (0-3)

How they did last week: Ghost Gaming beat NRG, 3-1, while Allegiance fell to Cloud 9, 1-3.

What Elo predicts: Ghost Gaming are the favorites in this series, with their 1618.7 rating besting Allegiance’s 1484.5 rating. Elo gives Ghost Gaming an 81.5 percent chance of winning the series.

Player to watch: Klassux had a very strong performance last week against NRG, with five goals, one assist, and nine saves in the four game series. Look for him to be a key factor in his team’s matchup with Allegiance.

Renegades (0-1) vs. FlyQuest (0-2)

How they did last week: FlyQuest had a rough weekend, as they were reverse-swept by Rogue and then swept by Cloud 9. Renegades did not play last weekend.

What Elo predicts: Renegades and FlyQuest are close in Elo, with Renegades having a 1617.3 rating and FlyQuest carrying a 1591.1 rating. Elo gives Renegades a 56.9 percent chance of winning the series.

Player to watch: Chrome struggled last week, only averaging 180.62 score per game. He’ll be looking to improve on that performance this weekend, and could end up being the difference maker in this close matchup with Renegades

Cloud 9 (3-0) vs. G2 Esports (1-0)

How they did last week: Cloud 9 beat Allegiance 3-1, and swept FlyQuest. G2 Esports did not play.

What Elo predicts: Cloud 9 is the highest rated North American team, coming in at 1767.7. G2 will certainly give them a challenge, given their 1707.5 rating, but Elo still gives Cloud 9 a 65.6 percent chance of winning the series.

Player to watch: The last time these two teams met, the difference maker in the series was Squishy. His incredible play-making abilities ended up being too much for G2 to handle, and he’ll be looking to replicate that performance in the biggest matchup we’ll see in North America this weekend.
